Oh, shit - he's baaaaack. . . .

I sat down at my laptop to update the blog and ~ WHOA ~ I was looking at LaundryMan and I think he wants to drive Bob and I home! Add to that, the Egan cloud has rediscovered us and as you'll see by today's photos, it's hanging around close and low!

So - we took a bus that took us to the metro that delivered us to Washington, DC. Once we got there, we decided to take another one of those ever so handy tours - the Old Town Trolley Tours (we took one down in Key West and we've taken it in NYC - fabulous way to get around)! If there's one anywhere near where you are going and you don't know the lay of the land, I highly recommend taking these tours - you can spend all day going around the loop and get off/back on at any of the stops.

Since the weather for Saturday doesn't look too promising, we decided to concentrate on all the outdoor stuff to do. We got off at the Tidal Basin, so we could see the Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial and the new (2004) WW II Memorial. While we toured the entire downtown area, I won't bore you with the photos of the stuff you can see in the background of any kind of press release. I must note, however, that the White House was shut down from the tour busses but that whole area was under high security alert due to a G2 conference. Apparently, there's a lot of big-wigs in town. . .

Above photos - top, obviously the Washington Monument shrouded in fog. The middle photos are the WW II Monument - I got a little artsy with the Guam portion of the monument as the Foley family spent some time in Guam and it lent itself well with the Washington Monument in the background (thought Dad and Dan would appreciate the photo!). The last picture, the Navy seal, was part of posts that were stationed on both sides of the monument that included the seals of all the armed services.

Bob remembers the Korean War Memorial from our previous visit, but I didn't recall it. It was, like the Vietnam War Memorial, an amazing display . . .

After wandering around all the Memorials, we caught the Trolley over to Arlington and visited the Kennedy sites, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Museum dedicated to the women who contributed to the service.

Before we ended the day, we caught an unusual sight by the reflecting pool. For those of you that know I feed the squirrels and bluejays peanuts from the back deck for the amusement of myself and the cats, Bob and I noticed that the squirrels in the basin area are quite tame and if you make eye contact with them, they approach you for food. Bob and I were joking that some of them had cousins in Grafton and they recognized me. . . There was one shy guy, tho - not an albino, but a WHITE squirrel!

Tomorrow we'll be hitting the museums. Anybody want an Obama '08 tee shirt, bumper sticker, hat, or anything else Obama? It's ALL over the place!

As usual, more to follow. . . .
